What weโre reading and eating (and dreaming of) this week:
A very special exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt!ย (God forbid any Pixar news goes un-reported on this blog.)
We drizzled Sean Brockโs Homemade Barbecue Sauce on ribs last weekend and now we want to drizzle it on everything.
In defense ofย Moms on Their Phones. (Iย totallyย narrate, do you?)
Ruth Reichlโs refrigerator door. (Uh, whereโs the Hellmannโs?)
I just orderedย Good and Cheap: Eat Well on $4 a Day, a cookbook written to address the plight of food stamp recipients who have to feed their families on..four dollars a day. ย I havenโt gotten my copy yet, but I hear itโs jam-packed with helpful advice on thrift and resourcefulness.ย For every copy purchased, the publisher will give a second copy to a family in need.
David: Will you marry me? Hugh: Iโll do anything just to shut you up.
One-bowl โfamousโ chocolate cupcakes.
The surprising resilience of print.ย (Why does this make me so happy?)
Now you know what to give your serious vegan friend for his or her birthday.
Itโs been one of those months in the DALS house where we find ourselves at the pediatrician/orthopedist/dentistโs office every other day. The upside? Each time we visit, we ask the doctor if we can take home a pair of plastic gloves. In other words we are all set for Halloween.
How much do I love MapMyRun? A lot.
Iโm joining Alana Chernila, Shauna Ahern, Katie Workman, and Jenna Helwig for a โKids in the Kitchenโ talk at the 92nd St. Y in New York on October 13. Please come say hi!
Lastly:
Youโll hear much more about my next book very soon โ is there any doubt there? โ but in the meantime hereโs a sneak peak of some of the images we shot last week. (Some of you may have seen it already on myย instagramย feed.) I could not be more thrilled with how everything turned out. Stay tuned!
Oh goshโฆI didnโt realize it until I read thisโฆI narrate a lot!
Great round up and VERY excited for your next book!!! Canโt wait! If you need anyone to test out recipes, you have a volunteer down in Richmond, VA!!!!! ๐
Thanks so much for the Pixar exhibit link! We are actually visiting our in-laws in November and will be able to check this out. Also, we have our favorite food haunts that we try to hit when we are there (Maryโs Fish Camp!) but anything new we must check out (that is appropriate for 5 yr old as well)?
i have made that Franklinsโ BBQ sauce no less than 5 times. I canโt take on a new sauce! I got that one down!! But Brock is my hometown hero, so here it goesโฆ..
Love to read this post!!! Very nice!!

Total narrator! Iโm glad Iโm not the only one.
I love that you included the book โGood and Cheap.โ I work in the nutrition field and gave this out to my patients at the VA hospital. Affording healthy food on food stamps is such a challenge for many people. Thanks for passing along the information to other readers!
