Friday Eating & Reading

By April 20, 20185 Comments

What weโ€™re eating and reading this week:

Dinner Party in a Box! (Above)ย My favorite meal-delivery service, Martha & Marley Spoon is now offering aย three-course โ€œfiesta boxโ€ to feed four ($78) or eight ($148). Just like their regular dinner kits, these take the front-end stress out of the equation by sending you all your fresh pre-measured ingredients and simple, clear instructions. And the line-up is delicious:ย Chipotle Shrimp Tortilla Soup,ย Chile-Spiced Tacos with Corn, Bean, and Poblanos, and for dessert,ย Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Filling, maybe the most insane cookies Iโ€™ve ever eaten. The fiesta box is only available until May 12.
.
This cookbookย makes me so pumped for the spring and summer farmerโ€™s market.
.ย
Great art isnโ€™t always made by good people, i.e.ย the conversation I seem to be having at every dinner table.

My new favorite lunch is Maya Kaimalโ€™s Everyday Dalย topped with plain yogurt and a few almond slices. Itโ€™s ready in under 5 minutes.
ย .
Is anyone more excited than me for The Incredibles 2? I donโ€™t think so.

ย .
Read of the week: The Legacy of Childhood Trauma (this is a rough one)
ย .
ย .
Listen of the week: Fired Over an Instagram Post.

My cousin had a baby! It reminded me of thisย book post from the archives.ย (And naturally, we bought her almost everything on the list.)
ย .
Lastly, thank you to everyone who has submitted stories and rituals for our Treasury project. We are overwhelmed by the generosity, creativity and humor of this community and were so happy that the idea seemed to have resonated. (To those who havenโ€™t submitted yet, worry not: It is an ongoing project, so there is no deadline for submitting.) If we havenโ€™t gotten back to you yet, we will very soon. THANK YOU.
ย .
Have a great weekend.

โ€œThe Legacy of Childhood Traumaโ€ was probably the most incredible piece of writing I have read in a while.
Heading to Charleston in a few weeks, and have your post bookmarked!

Do you suppose thereโ€™s a conspiracy by WaPo and NYT to get bloggers to put links to their articles in blogs, and then when people click on the links and are transported to WaPo and NYT and are not allowed to read the article unless they subscribe (because theyโ€™ve already read their allotted 3-5 free articles for the month), that the clickers subsequently subscribe to WaPo and NYT out of foam?

Where are you purchasing the dal? I havenโ€™t been able to find it anywhere nearby!

Junot Diazโ€™s writing is always awe inducing. But it was hard to even breathe after reading the Legacy of Childhood Trauma. His experience is heart breaking, his progress inspiring, but his wordsโ€”he brings so much vividness and vulnerability to the wordsโ€“ it makes even those lucky enough to not relate feel like they know childhood trauma.

Sixth letter of the weekend, comfortable spirit to enjoy the wonderful holidays with dining and outing schedule, thanks for sharing the article.
